Welcome to a time of stillness and resting in God
When I am most quiet and most myself, God’s grace is clear, and then I see nothing else under the sun. What else is there for us but to be tranquil and at peace in the all-enchanting wonder of God’s mercy to us? It falls upon this paper more quietly than the morning sun, and then I know that all things, without His love, are useless, and in His love, having nothing, I can possess all things.

Join us for an online experience of contemplative prayer led by Gary Jones, Interim Dean of Christ Church Cathedral in Houston, Texas.
When: Wednesdays during Lent, March 1- April 5, 6:30-7:30 p.m., via Zoom.
Each session begins with a brief welcome and reflection, followed by a time of “Holy Reading” or Lectio Divina. Using a short passage of Scripture, participants are guided through a meditative engagement with the passage. Lectio Divina is often thought of as a way of listening to the words of scripture, as if we are in a conversation with Christ, and Christ is initiating the conversation. Our practice of Lectio Divina will be followed by a time of Centering Prayer or “Resting in God.”
You do not have to have any experience with these ancient contemplative traditions to join. We encourage you to read two brief but informative pamphlets on Lectio Divina and Centering Prayer published by Contemplative Outreach, but each session on Zoom will include a review of the essentials of these practices.
There’s nothing simpler or more natural than our God-given capacity for contemplation. Many find that practicing with others provides the support we need to maintain our practice.
Information to join will be available soon.
